Leather Weight Conversion Chart

Leather is measured by “ounces”.   However, with leather, “ounces” does not refer to how much the leather weighs.  It’s actually a “gauge” for how thick the leather is.

The thicker the leather is, the higher it is on the gauge of “ounces”.    Leather is typically purchased by the square foot, and the price typically increases as the thickness in ounces increases.   This is typically the case with Full-Grain leather purchases.

The following chart outlines the comparison between leather thickness in ounces, as well as its correlation to other measurement scales.
